The American Nightmare

I’ve been on a bit of a personal journey lately trying to accurately collect my thoughts on what is happening in our country due to the current Trump administration. Combine what is currently happening with the attacks on civil liberties and then me watching the Handmaids tale for the first time. It’s safe to say that I’m a little bit on edge. I have been screaming on social media since before the Election about the rise of fascism in this country.

The American Nightmare

Brown skin, better hide.

Summer’s coming but it’s cold outside.

“but I was born here.”

Doesn’t matter, justice has died.

Your huddled masses detained

at our shores.

Forget about your poor,

we have enough of our own.

Billionaires and multimillionaires

built these institutions brick by brick

to serve their own and no one else,

If you spend enough time servicing from your knees

you might make it

but don’t forget to pull the ladder up behind you.

But don’t you worry,

we’ll make sure you stay underpaid

while we wake in our record profits

stolen from the hours of your life.

we’ll make sure your body breaks,

your mental health stays in shambles,

and you’ll pay us for the “fix.”

Don’t you dare beg for more,

you ungrateful citizen.

We’ll pit you against each other

as left vs. right

meanwhile we rake in the greenbacks.

luxuries of the middleman.

Don’t get any bright ideas,

you criminal citizen.

You can’t take care of your neighbors,

or control the means of production.

We’ll keep the dream alive just enough

that you’ll clock in tomorrow.
